About the Event

Unlock the power of spontaneous creativity with IMPROVISATION FOUNDATIONS.

In the world of performance, improvisation (improv) is a dynamic tool that fosters quick thinking, adaptability, and collaboration. Yet, its benefits extend far beyond the stage.

In everyday life, improv equips individuals with the ability to think on their feet, navigate unexpected situations, and embrace uncertainty with confidence. Whether facing a last-minute change in plans or engaging in spontaneous conversations, those versed in improvisation thrive amidst ambiguity.

IMPROVISATION FOUNDATIONS is part 1 of On The Wing's progressive curriculum of theatrical improvisation skills.

Over the course of 4 weeks we will be exploring some of the foundational skills of improvisation, such as:

  • Trusting our instincts
  • Making and accepting an 'offer'
  • Introducing an ‘objective’
  • Finding the game

Not a performer? No worries! This is a beginners' course in improvisation, and no prior performance experience is necessary - just a willingness to have a go and have fun! Practising improv helps the following skills:

  • Adaptive thinking and innovation
  • Public speaking
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Listening and communication

The course is suitable for participants 16 years and over.

IMPORTANT: The 4-week program in itself is also progressive, and participants will need to commit to the full course, as it is not designed to facilitate "drop-ins". If you can't make it to all 4 weeks, but are interested in developing your skills, please send an email to hello@onthewing.com.au and we will add you to our list to receive an alert when our next introductory course is being held! Likewise, if you have had prior experience/learning of improv skills, check out our Intermediate Improv course, running concurrently on Thursday nights until April 4.

YOUR FACILITATOR

Kieran Gale is a graduate of Charles Sturt University having studied a Bachelor of Communication and Creative Industries (Theatre/Media)… He wishes it were a shorter title than that.  Kieran has studied improvised theatre at ITS in Sydney and uses these skills every day in social and professional settings. Improv has allowed him to perform shows as part of National Science Week and as a Captain Starlight for Starlight Children’s Foundation. It's a constant source of fun and exploration for him, and invaluable in his practice as a comedian.
