About the Event
Unlock your creativity with improv classes!
"What is improv?", we hear you ask. 'Improv' is short for 'improvisation'. "Improvisation is the process by which we create" (Lyn Pierse). It's taking what you have on hand, in the moment, and creating something with it. It is something we use in our daily lives, at work and leisure, and also on the stage as performers. Improv is play!
Whilst many people associate improvisation with performing, it is not just for those who wish to perform. The skills you learn through practising improvisation will assist you in everyday life. Active listening, adapting and innovating, creative problem-solving and collaboration, as examples, are all highly sought-after and transferable skills across many different professional workplaces.
Through these drop-in classes you will explore concepts such as:
- Trusting your instincts
- Making and accepting an 'offer'
- Introducing an ‘objective’
- Advancing and extending the narrative
- Finding 'the game'.
These classes are beginner-friendly, and no prior experience is necessary - just a willingness to have a go and have fun! Classes are suitable for participants 16 years and over.
TERM 1 runs until Monday, April 3.

YOUR FACILITATOR
Kieran Gale
Kieran is a graduate of Charles Sturt University having studied a Bachelor of Communication and Creative Industries (Theatre/Media). He wishes it were a shorter title than that.
Kieran has studied improvised theatre at ITS in Sydney and uses these skills every day in social and professional settings. Improv has allowed him to perform shows a part of National Science Week and as a Captain Starlight for Starlight Children's Foundation. It's a constant source of fun and exploration for him, and invaluable in his practice as a comedian.
